The BecA-ILRI Hub is a shared agricultural research and biosciences platform located at and managed by the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) in Nairobi, Kenya. The Hub provides access to advanced biosciences research facilities, technologies, knowledge, research services, training and capacity development opportunities for scientists and institutions in Africa and beyond.
These Terms of Use govern your access to and use of the BecA-ILRI Hub website, including its pages, information, publications, photographs, multimedia, databases, downloadable materials and other digital resources made available through the website (collectively, the “Site”).
By accessing or using this Site, you acknowledge that you have read, understood and agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree with these Terms, you should discontinue use of the Site.
2. Purpose of the Site
The Site is provided primarily to communicate information about the BecA-ILRI Hub, its research activities, facilities, programmes, partnerships, capacity development initiatives, scientific resources, publications, events and other activities.
Information provided through the Site is intended primarily for general information, research, education and knowledge-sharing purposes.
Unless expressly stated otherwise, information published on the Site does not constitute professional, legal, medical, regulatory, financial or other specialist advice and should not be relied upon as such.
3. Acceptable Use
You may access and use the Site for lawful purposes.
When using the Site, you agree that you will not:
- use the Site in violation of any applicable law or regulation;
- attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Site, its servers, databases, networks or related information systems;
- interfere with, damage, disable or disrupt the operation, security or availability of the Site;
- introduce viruses, malware, malicious code or other material intended to damage or interfere with information systems;
- attempt to circumvent any security, authentication or access-control mechanisms;
- use automated systems to access or extract information from the Site in a manner that places an unreasonable burden on its infrastructure;
- use Site content in a misleading, defamatory, fraudulent or unlawful manner;
- misrepresent your identity, organisation or relationship with the BecA-ILRI Hub, ILRI or any of their partners;
- falsely imply endorsement, sponsorship or approval by the BecA-ILRI Hub or ILRI; or
- infringe the intellectual property, privacy or other legal rights of the BecA-ILRI Hub, ILRI or any third party.
We reserve the right to restrict or terminate access to the Site where we reasonably believe these Terms have been violated or where access presents a security, operational or legal risk.
4. Intellectual Property Rights
Unless otherwise indicated, the Site and its contents are protected by applicable copyright, trademark and other intellectual property laws.
The BecA-ILRI Hub is located at and managed by ILRI. Certain materials available through the Site may therefore be owned by ILRI, while other materials may be owned by project partners, research collaborators, authors, publishers, funders or other third parties.
Ownership, copyright notices, licence conditions and attribution requirements displayed on individual materials must be respected.
Nothing in these Terms transfers ownership of any intellectual property rights to a Site user.
5. Use and Reuse of Content
Unless otherwise stated on the relevant material, BecA-ILRI Hub and ILRI website content made available under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) Licence may be shared and adapted, including for commercial purposes, subject to the conditions of that licence.
Where the CC BY 4.0 licence applies, appropriate attribution must be provided to the relevant author, the BecA-ILRI Hub, ILRI or other identified rights holder, as applicable.
Attribution must not be presented in a manner that suggests that the BecA-ILRI Hub, ILRI, CGIAR, the African Union, a partner organisation, an author or any other contributor endorses the user, the user's organisation, or the user's use of the material.
When reusing material, users must:
- identify the source appropriately;
- retain applicable copyright, attribution and licence notices;
- indicate where modifications have been made where required by the applicable licence;
- not misrepresent the meaning, findings or context of the original material; and
- comply with any additional restrictions or conditions identified on the relevant material.
Some materials available through the Site may be subject to different licence conditions or third-party copyright restrictions. Where a specific copyright or licence notice accompanies an item, that notice takes precedence over the general provisions of this section.
Where no reuse licence is identified and you wish to reproduce material beyond what is permitted by applicable law, you should obtain permission from the relevant copyright holder.
6. Trademarks, Names and Logos
The names, logos, trademarks, service marks and other brand identifiers appearing on the Site may belong to ILRI, BecA-ILRI Hub partners, CGIAR, participating institutions, funders or other organisations.
Nothing in these Terms grants permission to use any name, logo, trademark or brand identity in a way that suggests endorsement, sponsorship, affiliation or approval without the prior permission of the relevant rights holder.
7. Scientific and Research Information
The BecA-ILRI Hub seeks to provide accurate and useful scientific and research information. However, research knowledge evolves continuously, and information available through the Site may subsequently be revised, superseded or updated.
Users should therefore exercise appropriate professional and scientific judgement when relying upon information obtained through the Site.
Where scientific publications, datasets, protocols, research outputs or other technical materials are referenced, users are encouraged to consult the original source and any subsequent updates before relying upon the information for research, policy, operational or other purposes.
The inclusion of research findings on the Site does not necessarily constitute endorsement of every interpretation, conclusion or recommendation expressed by individual authors or third-party contributors.
8. Accuracy of Information
Reasonable efforts are made to ensure that information published on the Site is accurate and current.
However, the BecA-ILRI Hub and ILRI do not warrant that all information available through the Site will at all times be complete, accurate, current or free from errors or omissions.
Information may be updated, corrected, modified or removed without prior notice.
Users remain responsible for independently evaluating information obtained from the Site before acting upon it.
9. Third-Party Content and External Links
The Site may contain information supplied by third parties or links to external websites, repositories, databases, publications, social-media platforms and other online resources.
Such links are provided for convenience, reference or knowledge-sharing purposes.
Unless expressly stated otherwise, the presence of a link does not constitute endorsement of the external website, organisation, service, product, opinion or information contained there.
The BecA-ILRI Hub and ILRI do not control third-party websites and are not responsible for their availability, security, privacy practices, accuracy or content.
When you leave the BecA-ILRI Hub Site, your use of an external website will be governed by that website's own terms, privacy policies and other applicable conditions.
10. User-Submitted Information
Where the Site permits users to submit information through forms, registrations, enquiries, applications, subscriptions or other interactive services, users are responsible for ensuring that information submitted is accurate and that they are authorised to provide it.
You must not submit material that:
- infringes another person's intellectual property or privacy rights;
- is unlawful, fraudulent, defamatory or intentionally misleading;
- contains malicious software or code;
- contains confidential information that you are not authorised to disclose; or
- otherwise violates applicable law.
Personal information submitted through the Site will be handled in accordance with the BecA-ILRI Hub Privacy Policy and applicable data-protection requirements.
11. Privacy and Personal Data
The BecA-ILRI Hub respects the privacy of visitors and users of the Site.
The collection, processing, storage, sharing and protection of personal information obtained through the Site are addressed in the BecA-ILRI Hub Privacy Policy.
By using features that require you to provide personal information, you acknowledge that such information will be processed in accordance with that Privacy Policy and applicable data-protection requirements.
12. Cookies and Similar Technologies
The Site may use cookies and similar technologies necessary for its operation and, subject to applicable requirements and your preferences, technologies used for functionality, analytics or other permitted purposes.
Further information about the cookies used by the Site, their purposes and the choices available to users is provided in the BecA-ILRI Hub Cookie Policy.

13. Website Availability
Reasonable efforts are made to maintain the availability, security and proper operation of the Site.
However, continuous or uninterrupted access cannot be guaranteed.

The BecA-ILRI Hub and ILRI may modify, suspend, discontinue or replace any part of the Site without prior notice where reasonably necessary.
14. Disclaimer of Warranties
To the extent permitted by applicable law, the Site and its contents are provided on an “as available” basis.
No representation or warranty is made that:
- the Site will always be available or uninterrupted;
- all information will be complete, accurate or current;
- the Site will be free from errors or technical defects;
- files downloaded from the Site will always be free from viruses or other harmful components; or
- information obtained from the Site will be suitable for a user's particular purpose.
Nothing in this section limits any rights or obligations that cannot lawfully be excluded.
15. Limitation of Liability
To the extent permitted by applicable law, the BecA-ILRI Hub and ILRI will not be liable for losses or damages arising solely from reliance upon information made available through the Site or from the inability to access or use the Site.
This includes, where legally permissible, indirect, incidental or consequential losses arising from:
- errors or omissions in Site content;
- interruptions or temporary unavailability of the Site;
- loss or corruption of data caused by circumstances outside reasonable control;
- reliance upon third-party content;
- access to external websites through links provided on the Site; or
- unauthorised interference with the Site by third parties.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where such liability cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.
16. Security
Users must not knowingly attempt to compromise the confidentiality, integrity or availability of the Site or any systems connected to it.
Unauthorised attempts to access systems, interfere with services, obtain restricted information, introduce malicious software or circumvent security measures may result in access being blocked and may be reported to appropriate authorities where required or permitted by law.
17. Changes to the Site
The BecA-ILRI Hub and ILRI may modify the Site, its structure, content, functionality or means of access from time to time.
Materials may also be corrected, updated, archived or withdrawn without prior notice.
The continued availability of any particular publication, dataset, page, service or other resource is not guaranteed.
18. Changes to These Terms
These Terms of Use may be revised periodically to reflect changes in the Site, operational requirements, legal obligations, institutional policies or relevant technologies.
The most current version will be published on this page together with its effective or updated date.
Your continued use of the Site following publication of revised Terms constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms to the extent permitted by applicable law.
Users are therefore encouraged to review these Terms periodically.

These Terms should be read together with other policies and notices published on the Site, including the:
Privacy Policy
Cookie Policy
Copyright and permissions information, where applicable.
Where a particular service, programme, application, research facility, dataset or resource is subject to separate terms or agreements, those specific terms will apply to that service or resource and will take precedence in the event of an inconsistency with these general website Terms of Use.
For clarity, these Terms govern use of the public website. They do not replace contractual terms, laboratory access agreements, research agreements, material transfer agreements, collaboration agreements or other agreements governing physical access to or participation in activities of the BecA-ILRI Hub.
20. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is determined by a competent authority to be invalid, unlawful or unenforceable, that provision will, to the extent necessary, be treated separately from the remaining provisions.
The validity and enforceability of the remaining provisions will not be affected.
21. Governing Framework
The BecA-ILRI Hub is located at and managed by the International Livestock Research Institute in Nairobi, Kenya.
These Terms should therefore be interpreted consistently with applicable law and the legal status, privileges, immunities and institutional arrangements applicable to ILRI.
